The HSWT needs volunteers to help manage the animals who are abandoned, found and relinquished weekly.  As you know, the HSWT is a volunteer-only organization; there are no paid staff members and there is no shelter facility.  Dedicated volunteers and fosters have been tirelessly checking the phone message line, returning phone calls and emails, transporting animals, feeding animals, cleaning kennels at PetSmart, caring for homeless pets in their homes, tending to pets’ medical needs and working at HSWT adoption events.

We need your help in the following ways:

Foster homes -  HSWT currently has dogs who are INCREDIBLE and need a loving a place to stay until they are adopted at the weekend adoption events.  HSWT will get numerous requests this week for animals needing foster homes.  Lately, we have had to turn people away when we cannot find a place for a great, adoptable animal to stay.

Working at adoption events – HSWT needs people of all ages to work at the adoption events on Saturdays and Sundays.  We are looking for people who will tend to animals’ needs (water and potty breaks), and people with customer service skills to assist customers in finding their new best friends.  We would love to have volunteers who are able to come to PetSmart on Slide Rd at the end of the adoption events and help clean/disinfect kennels to be ready for the next day.

Answering phone calls – HSWT needs people who are willing to answer phone calls from people who are needing information on how to find their lost pet, and what to do when they find a pet.  We also need volunteers to assist the coordinators in letting people know where to take the pet to be relinquished to the HSWT and for wellness checks and vaccines.

Coordinators – HSWT is needing volunteers who are willing to assume a coordinator or co-coordinator role.  Coordinating includes managing files, managing pets and managing people.  It takes a lot of work to keep up with 50+ animals who are in the system to be adopted.  We have many great coordinators in place who need some assistance with the work load.

If you are interested in working with the Humane Society of West Texas, please email us at HSWT.org@gmail.com for an application or you may contact Volunteer Coordinator, Linda Cox at 806-466–6644 or wlinda1939@att.net .

If you are a HSWT foster home and have a pet that hasn’t been posted on this site and would like it posted, please email story and picture to bethbrlrcr@yahoo.com
