The Humane Society of West Texas cares for animals that are rescued or surrendered to the organization with the intent to find them a loving forever home. These animals, once received, are given necessary health care including a routine health check, vaccines, deworming, a microchip, and spay/neutering when needed. They are then fostered in the home of a volunteer until a permanent home can be found.
Some of the benefits of adopting a fostered animal include:
- The animal has been receiving social contact both with humans and often with other animals in a home setting
- A foster parent has spent time with the animal and can tell you about their personality, their likes/dislikes, and their habits
- Foster parents often work on housebreaking, basic obedience, leash training, and/or crate training
- Foster animals are likely to be healthier than animals kept in shelter kennels
